Stoke City and Tony Pulis part ways by mutual consent

Stoke City have parted ways with manager Tony Pulis by mutual consent. This comes as a result of a disappointing season as per the standards of the club.

Tony Pulis first took the Potters’ job in back 2002, and despite managing Plymouth Argyle for a season, in 2005, he returned to the club and got them promoted to the Premier League for the first time and since then, they have managed to avoid the relegation.

The Welshman, 55, guided the club to an FA Cup final in 2011 and even managed to qualify for Europe.

In Europe, the Potters were eliminated in the knockout stages by Valencia, but a below par season this year and an unpopular style of play is believed to have gone against him. The decision to part ways was arrived at after a meeting with chairman Peter Coates this morning.

Pulis though, only last week rubbished the speculation about his future and maintained that he wanted to carry on as the boss.

“Ten years ago, I stood in front of 300-400 people in the Waddington Suite,” he said.

“And told everyone I was very, very proud to be Stoke City manager and I’m still very proud to be Stoke City manager today,” revealed the Welshman then but he is now part of the history at Staffordshire club.
