The world of football is going to witness yet another North West derby this Sunday and Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson had his say on the match earlier today. Ferguson told the reporters that he hoped the result of the match would depend on players rather than the officials. He also added that it would be an entertaining game despite recent tensions and historical rivalry between the two clubs.
He told the reporters: ?“We’ve got the two most successful clubs in the country and you hope it’s a good game. Over the years they’ve been relatively free from controversy. No sensational decisions have marred the game. It is always an immensely important game. It is intense and emotional. Everything you can think of in a derby game will probably be there.”
When asked about the recent controversial handball goal scored by Suarez, he mentioned that the Uruguayan was ‘laden with controversy’. Suarez has been in thunderous form recently and certainly poses the biggest threat for the side from the red half of Manchester, netting no less than 15 league goals this season.
Ferguson said, “I didn’t see the Mansfield game, so it’s difficult to say if it was deliberate (handball) or not. But I think (Suarez) is laden with controversy. I don’t know if he enjoys it or not.”
He also responded to Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers’ recent claim that he would not swap Suarez for United’s lethal centre-forward van Persie.
He said, “You’re always going to support your own player. That’s not surprising from Brendan Rodgers. I’ve done it myself. It’s part of your loyalty and protection of the player. I just hope we don’t suffer from some of the decisions that went Suarez’s way on Sunday.”
