Premier League footballer Stephane Sessegnon has been charged with driving under the influence after he was apprehended while his team-mates played in Tuesday night’s cup clash.
The Sunderland forward was pulled up by Northumbria Police on Westgate Road, Newcastle, at 7:51 pm. His arrest coincided with his team suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of MK Dons in their Capital One encounter at the Stadium of Light.
A police spokesman said the Benin International has been charged with drunk driving and will appear before a tribunal on October 4th.
The Mirror quoted the spokesman saying, “At 7.51pm on Tuesday August 27 a 29-year-old man was arrested on Westgate Road, Newcastle, on suspicion of drink driving.
“Stephane Sessegnon, of Runnymede Road, Ponteland, has been charged with drink driving and is due to appear before Newcastle Magistrates on October 4.”
Sunderland won their cup tie 4-2.
