According to the latest transfer reports, Sunderland chief Martin O´Neill is believed to be keen to make a move for previous Manchester United and England centre forward Michael Owen. The seasoned campaigner has been linked with several clubs this summer, including English Premier League sides Everton, Liverpool and Stoke City.
Michael Owen, who is a free agent after he was deemed surplus to requirements by Old Trafford supremo Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of the 2011-12 campaign, has on several occasions told the press that he expects to sign with a Premier League team in the near future. And although the transfer window closed on the 31st of August, league clubs are still allowed to sign players who are currently out of contract.
