Defending champions Italy continue their pursuit of back-to-back European titles against Switzerland in the Round of 16 of UEFA Euro 2024 on Saturday (June 29). Interestingly, the contest will be at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, where the Azzurri won their fourth World Cup title in 2006.
With four points in three group games, Italy came second to Spain in Group B. The holders started with a narrow 2-1 win over Albania before a 1-0 loss to La Roja. In their last group fixture, Italy avoided a loss to Croatia by equalising in the eighth minute of stoppage time to secure a 1-1 draw.
Standing in their way now are the Swiss, who saw off Hungary and Scotland to finish as the runners-up in Group A, behind hosts, Germany. The Rossocrociati beat the Hungarians 3-1 in their opening game before a pair of 1-1 draws to Scotland and Germany.
Murat Yakin's side enter the tie as the underdogs but will look build on their sensational comeback victory over France at this stage of the competition three years ago for inspiration.
