Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger appears to have finally settled onWojciech Szczesny as his long-term number one, with the goalkeeper reportedly penning a new bumper contract at the club. Perennially linked with a replacement for the 23 year old Pole, Wenger seems to have been convinced to stick with him for the time being.
Szczesny has produced a solid start to the season, coinciding with the side’s ascent to the top of the Premier League table. The goalkeeper has come under a high level of scrutiny since his breakthrough into the first team. Questions have been raised over whether the Pole has the ability and temperament to be the Gunners long term number one, but reports of a new four year deal suggest that the Emirates hierarchy are convinced that the Pole is their long term goalkeeper.
Arsenal were heavily linked with QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar over the summer, but news of Szczesny’s new deal should see speculation subside in the next window. The Pole is set to double his current wages of £40k, putting him amongst the club’s higher earners.
