Arsenal‘s outspoken goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has played down Tottenham’s bid for a top four finish in the EPL, insisting that the White Hart Lane club lacks quality.
Fifth place Tottenham are two points behind Arsenal, having played a game less and will travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Wednesday night. A win against Andre-Villas Boas’ former club will push Arsenal to fifth place, but Szczesny believes Tottenham lack the quality to finish in the top four. His contempt is clear in the following statements he made:
“If we win our next two games it will be enough because either Chelsea or Spurs will drop points because they play each other. If you look at Chelsea’s fixtures, they have Tottenham and Everton left and they won’t be easy games. And Tottenham do not have enough quality, so there you go…I would settle for another two 1-0 wins in the rest of the season and a place in the top three. Even if we have games like the QPR one, which may have been boring at times, but we couldn’t care less at this time. We just got the three points.
“Hopefully it will be back to the old days and hopefully we will get back to winning trophies as well.”
Arsenal will host Wigan in their penultimate premier league game before travelling to struggling Newcastle United, and the Gunners are firm favourites to emerge victorious in both these games. The Polish international found himself in the thick of action against QPR in the weekend, where he made to grand save to keep out Loic Remy’s shot in the dying stages of the game that the Gunners won 1-0. However, the 21-year-old played down the hype surrounding his save and added “I don’t think it was a great save. I am not getting too excited, it’s about the team’s defending.
“It’s not just the two centre-backs, it’s not just the goalkeeper, it’s the whole team. A lot of credit has to go to (Arsenal assistant) Steve Bould for his work.”
