Another banner has been flown above Old Trafford this afternoon but this time it isn’t asking for a manager to be sacked.
The banner circled the sky above Old Trafford as Manchester United were playing Norwich City in Ryan Giggs’ first game as interim manager. The banner read: ‘Thank U Moyes – Malta FF’.
The plane was reportedly organised by a Facebook group of fans called Malta Football Forum.
Despite initially appearing to show gratitude to sacked United manager David Moyes, the message is believed to be a sarcastic one, with the ex-Everton manager’s 10-month tenure widely ridiculed by supporters.
Initially, a banner flew over Old Trafford during the side’s recent 4-1 win over Aston Villa, reading: ‘Wrong One – Moyes Out’. It was roundly booed but it reflected the thoughts of the majority of supporters towards the end of Moyes’ time at the club.
Moyes was sacked earlier this week after a terrible first season in charge at United. The final straw from the men who run the club was the 2-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park last weekend. It is now thought that Louis van Gaal will become the new Manchester United manager.
