Has been a disappointing week for the gunners. The last-minute goal conceded to the Cats is just not sinking in. Aah….. if Clichy had cleared it right. Or if Koscielny, who had an outstanding game, was standing a yard either side. Or if Rosicky had scored the pen. Or if the referee did not allow those extra 10 seconds. Or if Song had not been dished out one of those two yellows. Or…..let me stop here. The list is endless.
The 4-1 defeat of spurs was more of a consolation and a relief than anything else. And also helped us eradicate memories of the 5-1 defeat we suffered to them two years back in the Carling Cup semi-finals. Wenger did surprise us with the amount of experienced and first-team players he fielded in the Carling cup match. We had Eboue, Nasri, Rosicky, Koscielny and later on Chamakh and Arshavin. A typical Wenger Carling Cup squad wuld never have so many experienced players. Is this a sign of things to come or a one-off? To this Wenger was his usual self. He said that he would look at it on a match-by-match basis and take it from there. Jack (Wilshere) was our best player. He was awesome. He, along with a fully-fit Rosicky, could be like two new signings. Two players we dint have last season. That convinces me that Wenger’s decision to not buy a mid fielder was correct. In fact, with Jackie and Rambo(when he comes back) in the squad, we can safely offload Cesc, cash in and buy other players. And Fabianski’s mistake convinces me that Wenger was wrong not buying a goalie.
Injury news:
Vasikiri (Abou Diaby) has a “small chance” of making against West Brom. So we can assume he would be available for the next game for sure.
Varmaelen is out for the “next two games”. Lets hope and pray he is back for the Chelsea game. I think he will be back for this one.
Kieren Gibbs’ injury against spurs is not as bad as first feared. He could be back “maybe Tuesday”
Cesc has “a chance” of returning for the Chelsea game. But, looking at our past injury records, I am not very optimistic on this one.
Bendtner, Walcott, RVP are probably another month away.
We are looking at Almunia in the goal. Clichy, Squilacci, Koscielny and Sagna completes our Francais back four. (Mind you, Koscielny is also elgible to play for Poland). Song, Willie, Nasri, Arshavin and Rosicky to complete the mid-field with Marouanne up front. We should win this one as long as we are not complacent. And with four points between us and Chelsea, there is no way we can afford to be.
Elsewhere, Chelsea travel to the Eastlands to take on City. It is the familiar rivalry of Mancini Vs Ancelotti. There are some interested mind games being played over there with Mancini claming that Chelsea “will win the title easily” and then Ancelotti rubbishing that and then saying that City themselves are in with a chance. What a bunch of jokers!
