Sunderland 1 – 1 Arsenal
Oh……. My…..God. It could not have been a more disappointing finish to a game which started so promisingly (although fortuitous) for us. I must admit, this was one of our worst games this season and I would have stood by what I just said even if we had clung on to our 1-0 lead. This was an atypical Arsenal performance. No passing moves, no fluidity. And this was even when we had 11 men on the pitch. And if we had won the game even after such a bad performance that would have given the Arsenal fans so much encouragement. These are the kind of matches we need to convert into a victory. When we are in the mood, there are not many teams that can stop us and we tend to put 4 or 5 goals into the opposition net. However, it is matches like these, when we are not at our best, when we dont have our leader on the pitch, when we are reduced to 10 men, that we need to win by getting stuck in. It is either we win by four goals or we draw/lose. We need more 1-0 victories, we need to win on days we are not playing well. Rosicky could have done that for us, referee could have done that for us by not allowing those extra 15 seconds which cost us dear. We cant really blame any one particular player in such cases. Let us hope that we leanr from such games and come back stronger.
The good news is that Cesc should be back in two weeks. (Sources: His Twitter account). He says:
“Good news on my injury.I have some fluid but nothing bad in the muscle. I hope I can be playing in two weeks.”
That could be touch-and-go as far the game against Chelsea on October 3 is concerrned.
Arsene has been fined 8000 pounds for his sarcastic pat-on-the-back of the referee. But, no one cares for that. I dont think Arsene does himself.
Looking ahead to the Carling cup clash against Tottenham, we could be in for an exciting afternoon (for those in the US) of football. Like it or not, Arsene is going to field a team full of fledglings again. News is that Eboue will proabably the only player who is above 22 years old to start tomorrow. Lot of Arsenal fans will also get to have a first look Jay Emanuel Thomas, about who the boss says
“Jay has class. Class to give the ball, class to finish, class to pass people,”
Carlos Vela will proabably start up front with him. Song will serve his one-match suspension (He would not have played this anyway). Jack Wilshere, Kieren Gibbs, Tom Cruise will also probably start. I hope to see Schezeny rather than Fabianski in the goal.On the other side, Gallas will probably be rested, so he will be spared from getting the barrage of shots he was about to from our young gunners.
