The modern manager is the real deal: a football brain with in-depth tactical knowledge of the game, a taskmaster with great man-management skills and a motivator with immense understanding of his players’ psyche.
But a coach is also somebody who is an image and representation of not only himself, but the club he manages. And a big part of that is how they carry themselves in view in the daily rigmarole.
So below is a list of the best dressed in Europe today:
Claudio Ranieri (AS Monaco)
Salt and pepper hair, rimless frames and branded suits, the much travelled Italian isn’t to be left behind.
It would come as no surprise if the 61-year-old’s outfits would be as expensive as his summer signings for Monaco.
Cesare Prandelli (Italy)
What is it with the Italy national team coach and the colour purple? Whatever it is, one thing is for sure: the 56-year-old tries to incorporate it in his little way, be it ties, scarves or cardigans.
Murat Yakin (FC Basel)
Swiss side FC Basel has sprung quite a few surprises in the Champions League in recent memory with wins of the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United. The reason for that is their 39-year-old manager, who dresses as sharply as his team plays.
Andrea Stramaccioni (Unemployed)
The former Inter Milan manager has the looks to kill. Akin to most modern day managers dressed to fancy suits and ties with spit-polished shoes to boot. The 37-year-old loved the rugged look, just like bad-boy Simeone.
Diego Simeone (Atletico Madrid)
Best known during his playing days as a robust and tough-tackling midfield enforcer, who simulated injury in order to get David Beckham sent off during the 1998 FIFA World Cup, the Atletico Madrid manager is the new breed of modern managers who love their tight fitting suits and skinny ties.
Not to forget the stubble and the cheek that comes with it.
Antonio Conte (Juventus)
Believe it or not, the Juventus manager was bald at a time. The Italian, who was involved in a match-fixing scandal, underwent a hair-transplant a few years ago.
And you can see why he went under the knife, as the 44-year-old in one of the best dressed managers in Europe today.
Jose Mourinho (Chelsea)
Now no managerial list would be complete without the inclusion of the self-christened “Special One” would it?
The trench coat that the Portuguese coach put on view during his first stint as Chelsea manager has sadly been retired to the club museum.
Roberto Mancini (Galatasaray S.K.)
During his days as Manchester City boss, the Italian sported a distinct look. It wasn’t his suit or his set of fantastic head of hair that caught the eye, but the retro blue and white terrace scarf that was neatly tucked into his coat.
Italians, huh?
Pep Guardiola (Bayern Munich)
The Bayern Munich manager finds himself ahead of old-foe Mourinho on this list as well.
But it is no surprise really, as his sharp suits and thin ties are just as much a part of his personality as his tiki-taka method.
Joachim Loew (Germany)
Suit up! The Germany national coach’s attire is so classy that assistant Hansi Flick has dared to suit up just like him.
Be it a scarf or a jumper around his neck, or even a turtleneck for that matter, the 53-year-old’s belief in himself shows as his on field tactics do well to match his clothing sense on the sidelines.
