The managers, players and the spectators come down heavily on them for each and every controversial decision they make. One decision could entirely change the outcome of a match. One can think of the disallowed Lampard goal against Germany in the 2010 World Cup and wonder what would have happened had the goal beenallowed.To pick out the best referee from a list is one of the toughest things to do. However, in this list we have picked out some of the best of the lot, the ones who are least prone to making mistakes and rule the footballing field with an iron fist. This man also has had his controversial moments and even makes it to many a football fan’s top three referees in the Premier League. He is pretty fit and has a common sense while refereeing making him one of the best in the business.

#4 Micheal Oliver

In 2010, he walked into a Premier League ground as the Premier League’s youngest referee ever at the tender age of 25. He has quickly become one of the best around in the League even though he is also prone to mistakes every now and then. Alert and unfussy, he makes it into the fourth position in this list.

#3 Lee Probert

Every referee has his good and bad moments, so has this man – Lee Probert. This referee is regarded as one of the best in the League for his willingness to let the match run without ruining it with meaningless whistles. He also makes minimal amount of mistakes.

#2 Mike Dean

This is one man who makes mistakes , accepts and apologises for them. He is one of a kind and is a strong character just like every other referee in this list. He has a reputation for fairness and impartiality, making straightforward decisions with a minimum fuss.

#1 Howard Webb

This might have been a controversial decision had Alex Ferguson not retired, as the media and Manchester United opposers have always been on Howard Webb’s neck for some of his decisions. But he is one of the best referees in the world. Period.

He is the most experienced and respected of the referees and comes in at number one. He is England’s only referee in the world cup, even though he had a calamitous time towards the latter part of the season.
