What’s the story?
Thomas Meunier is still hurting from his side, Paris Saint-Germain's second leg loss to Manchester United in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League this season and he has labelled it ‘the biggest joke in football history’.
In case you didn’t know...
The Parisians won the first leg at Old Trafford 2-0 and looked set to seal a berth in the quarter finals of the Champions League but in the return leg, they were stunned by the English side who won the game 3-1 and sealed a fixture against FC Barcelona on away goals advantage.
The heart of the matter
Thomas Meunier still can not get over the fact that Manchester United were able to defeat the French Champions. The Belgian right-back remains unimpressed at the VAR-awarded penalty for a handball against Presnel Kimpembe that Marcus Rashford scored to send United into the quarter-finals. In a recent interview, he has opened up on the loss as he said:
“The match against Manchester [United] is just the biggest joke in football history.”
“I could have put a million euros that we could not lose. Not to qualify, it was really catastrophic. Everyone is well aware of this.
“The Champions League is still the major problem. The communication was made about this internationalization, about winning this competition, to be part of the big ones like Real, Barça. It will take a long time for that, but PSG is a club that grows.”
The Belgian international implied that it was a catastrophic night at the Parc des Princes. He believes that despite having best players in the world, the Champions League is still an issue and the Parisian club will take it's time to reach Real Madrid and Barcelona's level.
What's next?
