Incredible players like Andrea Pirlo, Ashley Cole and Thiago Silva were ignored in favour of La Liga under-performers like Marcelo, Dani Alves and Gerard Pique.
Next year, they might as well do away with the World XI and retain a La Liga XI!
While Messi winning the Ballon D’Or was guaranteed, some players, coaches and the media, who all cast their votes to select the winner, decided to have some fun by voting for players you’d least expect!
Take the Palestine captain, for example, who voted for, believe it or not, Mario Balotelli!
The coach of Thailand wasn’t far behind, voting for Barcelona‘s in-house actress, Sergio Busquets!
With the footballing world focussed upon the Ballon d’Or, there were little (well actually, non-existent) moves in the transfer market. Frank Lampard has been linked with a move to Manchester United, with Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly keen on signing the midfielder in the summer.
Whether he does move to the arch-rivals of his beloved club is another matter altogether.
AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani says the club has no interest in signing Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli. Adding to that, club president Silvio Berlusconi has described Balotelli as ‘a rotten apple’ who infects every group he is in!
