The season has once again started with Pundits predicting the outcome from 1st game itself; So here is mine :). My view, my analysis and my thoughts and I found sportskeeda as the best platform to express the same.
This season a lot has been talked about La Liga and its relative superiority, thanks to this much inflated summer transfer season. Well if its Kaka, Ronaldo and Ibrahimovic who have made all the difference, I beg to differ. Just have a look at Messi, Ronaldo, Ibra, there national sides are finding it hard to qualify for World Cup. If these stalwarts can’t guarantee their national side a place in World Cup, if these players can’t resuscitate the fortunes of their national side, then how can they make their league superior. Still I find EPL far more competitive. In EPL you have five teams Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City competing for the CL qualification. Apart from them, there are sides like Everton, Aston Villa, Tottenham who give top 5 sides run for the money. But in La liga there is large gap between top 2(Real,Barca) and rest others. Sevilla, Athletico, Villareal ,Valencia can’t guarantee you a constant performance. They can be brilliant on one day and mediocre on next. They have some good players like Fabiano, Aguero, Villa, Mata, Silva, Senna. Yeah there finances are also in terrible shape.
Now analyzing relative strengths of Top 5 EPL sides.
Arsenal:- A young side with more matured players this season. Their fitness holds the key. If top players like Cesc Fabregas, RVP, Arshavin, Rosicky, Song, Gallas, Vermalean, Nasri remain fit for the season, they are a force to reckon with. I recommend they should buy a solid holding midfielder in January transfer season to replace Song during ACN.
Manchester United:-Even after losing their top player Ronaldo, Champions have a decent chance to defend the tittle. They have strong defense line with Ferdinand, Vidic and Evra. With capable leadership of Ryan Giggs, the team looks in good shape. Though the striking partner of Rooney still remains a problem. Berbatov has to prove his worth this season and Owen needs to regain his fitness.
Liverpool:- They lost only 2 games last season but still they lost the tittle to ManU. In this season they have already lost 3 matches. The pressure is immense on Rafa to deliver and open the account of the Premier league tittle. Departure of Hyppia and Xavi Alonso have hurt them a lot. They need to improve their defense. Lucas has been below par this season. Aquilani will feel the pressure when he debuts for Liverpool. They badly need a good partner for Mascherano for 4-2-3-1 after departure of Xavi Alonso.
Chelsea:-By far the strongest looking team on paper with the likes of Drogba, Anelka, Malouda, Lampard, Deco, Ballack, Essien, Terry and fit Carvalho. It would be interesting to see how the team plays during January, February when both holding midfielders Essien and Obi Mikel will be on national duty for ACN along with Drogba. Since they are serving the transfer ban which is not likely to be scrapped before this January transfer season.
Manchester city:-New entrant in the elite list thanks to the great summer spending. The team has done well and players have combined well. Adebayor was looking in red hot form before the 3 match ban. They have got bunch of attacking players. What they lack is defense. In ACN they will lose Adebayor and Toure for 2 months. They showed their attacking prowess in game against Gunners, but in the same game there were more shots from gunners. They won but still there defense was looking vulnerable at times and Gunners were tad unlucky. They need to work on their defense as they have to face Drogba, Torres in near future.
