Midfielders - Jack Wilshere (West Ham), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Liverpool) and Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea)
Jack Wilshere, a product of the Arsenal youth system, made his professional debut for the club in 2008 after joining the youth system in 2001.
Wilshere showed a lot of promise during his initial days at Arsenal and became the club’s youngest debutant by breaking the record of Cesc Fabregas. However, Wilshere’s career was impeded by recurring injuries.
The 2010/11 season was a breakout season for him as he played 49 games across all competitions while earning rave reviews. The following season, he failed to play a single game as he was on the treatment table. This was the theme of Wilshere’s career.
He played 197 games for Arsenal before he was released at the end of the 2017/18 season. The 26-year-old joined West Ham in the summer with the hope of rejuvenating his career.
Like Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also left Arsenal after failing to realize his potential but Chamberlain seems to have found the perfect tutelage under Jurgen Klopp.
Chamberlain joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2011 and surprised a lot of people with his performance in his debut season. In fact, his debut season form earned him a place in England’s Euro 2012 squad.
Chamberlain played 198 games for Arsenal scoring 20 goals before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2017. After a slow settling in period at Liverpool, Chamberlain proved to be a game changer for the Reds in the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League.
Very few departing players would have hurt Arsenal fans like Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard joined Arsenal in 2003 as a 16-year-old and went on to play 303 games for the club scoring 57 times. During his stint with Arsenal, he was named club captain and became a fan favourite.
Ahead of the 2011/12 season, Fabregas pushed for a move back to Barcelona and damaged his relationship with Arsenal fans in the process.
Fabregas got his move and was with Barcelona for three seasons during which he won six trophies. He scored 42 times in 151 games in Barcelona colours before joining Chelsea ahead of the 2014/15 season.
The move to Chelsea infuriated the Arsenal fans even more. Fabregas has won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup and League Cup once each with Chelsea and played 183 games so far.
Honourable mentions: Santi Cazorla (Villarreal), Francis Coquelin (Valencia), Oğuzhan Özyakup (Beşiktaş), Alex Song (FC Sion), Samir Nasri (Free agent) and Lassana Diarra (PSG)
