Frank Lampard is one of the greatest players to have ever donned a Chelsea jersey. He was signed from West Ham in 2001 by Claudio Ranieri and has been a faithful servant to Chelsea ever since. After a quiet start to his career at the club, Lampard soon won over the hearts of the Stamford Bridge faithful. He was instrumental in Chelsea’s three championship winning seasons and is certainly one of the best midfielders the English game has ever produced. He is renowned for his delayed runs into the box and his ability to regularly hit the back of the net from midfield. He has scored 178 goals for the Blues and has played over 500 games. He is the highest scoring midfielder in the club’s history and is third on the club’s all time top scorer’s list. He has been one of the first names on the Chelsea team sheet for the last decade but this hasn’t been the case this season. Frank is now 33 and his legs have not supported his desire to play week in-week out. He has expressed his disappointment at not being picked regularly but is still looking for a contract extension. I would personally love to see Frank Lampard see out his career at Stamford Bridge with appearances off the bench and the odd start. Chelsea do, however, need to start looking for a replacement and have to sign a new creative midfielder to support their demanding ambitions.
An ideal replacement for Frank Lampard would be Luka Modric. The Tottenham midfielder looked set to join the Blues in the summer transfer window but the move fell through. The 26 year-old is quick and classy, and is being chased by many of Europe’s top clubs. He may not score a lot of goals but certainly makes up for it with his flawless vision and crisp passing. The little Croatian orchestrates the Tottenham midfield and has been key to their success. He is skillful and crafty and can provide Chelsea with some much-needed creativity, if they manage to land his signature.
Another possible replacement for Super Frank would be Lille starlet Eden Hazard. He is currently one of Europe’s most sought after prospects. He has a low center of gravity and is extremely pacey. He gives defenders a torrid time with his skill and quick feet. Hazard is only 20 years old and has been linked with a move to Chelsea. He can play on the wing or even in the hole behind the striker. He has lit up the French league with his brilliant individual efforts and his ability to feed in the front men. If Chelsea were to sign the Belgium international, he would bring the energy and enthusiasm the Chelsea attack is lacking, and would keep the Blues fans on the edge of their seats.
Mario Goetze was vital in Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga success last campaign. He is fast becoming one of Germany’s finest talents and was called “Germany’s Messi” by legend Franz Beckenbauer . He maybe the creative midfielder AVB is looking to sign. Goetze does not only score goals from midfield but is also the player striker’s dream of playing with. He can pick out a pass with his pinpoint accuracy and can change the direction of play with ease. He is a hard working youngster with a lot of talent and would be the perfect man to come into the aging Chelsea squad. His market value seems to be rising with every game he plays, so Chelsea will need to be quick to put in a bid for the German international but will also have to fight off competition from United and Arsenal.
