Images of sad Brazillian fans started emerging on social media following Brazil’s humiliating 7-1 defeat at the hands of Germany in their semi-final tie in the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

Among many of those disheartened fans, a fan called Clovis Acosta Fernandes, who is also known as ‘Gaucho da Copa’ became Internet’s new hero after he gave away the replica cup that he was holding onto throughout the match to a German fan following Brazil’s defeat.

Due to his look that includes a hat, scarf and boots that resembles the traditional gaúcho attire, he was given the nickname ‘Gaucho da Copa.’

This was the seventh World Cup that Fernandes had attended, having travelled to 66 countries to support his nation as their “12th man” in the stands. He is said to have been to a total of 154 matches including the seven World Cup matches, 6 Copa Américas, 4 Confederation Cups and one Olympic.

Imgur user littlefran went through a lot of trouble to tell the world more about this man, and as far as we know, he is a 59 years old who works as a real estate agent when he is busy travelling around the world while supporting Brazil.

He found a fan group called the ‘ Gaúchos na Copa’, a group of people travelling around the world with him. "Those travels are usually expensive, and not everyone has the time or resources to accompany me. So, our little group of people is getting new people and renovating themselves," said one of the group members.

According to littlefran, he was chosen as the Star Supporter for Brazil by FIFA back in 2002.

"I got a lot of space on international media. Suddenly, television everywhere started showing this majestic moustached man with this huge passion for running around with the Brazilian team, as well as showing Rio Grande do Sul's culture around," he said.

So much was his impact in this World Cup that Google went on to pay him a tribute through one of their interactive infographics
