Jose Mourinho’s relationship and time with Real Madrid can best be described as a love-hate relationship, the contrast being so stark that it almost seems that his relationship at the club resembles that of a person suffering a bi-polar disorder. From the dizzying heights of ending Barcelona‘s stranglehold over the La Liga title, to his usual antics in press conferences, he sure did ruffle alot of feathers last year.
But within a year, things have changed drastically for the arrogant and outspoken manager. His team lies in 3rd in the La Liga standings, and the mood in the Madrid camp is nothing but of sheer tension, with reports suggesting a sort of revolt against the Special One. The final nail in the coffin might have come in the form of Mourinho dropping regular goalkeeper Iker Casillas to the bench for a couple of games, playing reserve shot-stopper Adan instead.
All this has lead to speculation that the Special One might return to England, where his reputation is much stronger, and he is well respected. Many see him as the only manager who can match Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, while many others even see him as the ideal successor to Sir Alex, considering both have similar traits when it comes charisma, as well as the way in which they play mind games with their opposition.
However, the more appealing managerial seat might be available at Chelsea, where he is still revered, and regarded by many Chelsea fans as the only manager who can handle both, the owner Roman Abramovich, as well the high-pressure managerial seat at the club. With Chelsea’s change of style this season, they have been leaking a lot of goals, but as we all know, Mourinho is known for his emphasis on defense, winning those crucial games by 1-0 scorelines, and grinding out results. However, with Real Madrid, he has also showcased with proper counter-attacking football how to outscore the opposition, with his side scoring a lot of goals.
It remains to be seen if he will take the job at Chelsea, after Abramovich’s first-choice Pep Guardiola snubbing the club to join Bayern Munich. He might have been booted out before, but the Special One’s name will be up on the manager shortlist come the summer.
