The standings won't matter a lot in the Manchester derby: Vincent Kompany

Vincent Kompany wants to end the current season on a high

Despite having lost 4 out of their last 6 encounters, across all competitions, Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has said it doesn't matter where they are placed in the League table, while heading into as big a game as the Manchester derby.

City have had the upper hand in the fixture in recent times, having won 4 out of the last 5 games against the Red Devils and will look to better the record over their neighbours at Old Trafford on Sunday.

United have the momentum going into the game: Kompany

“We have United on Sunday and a derby is a derby. It doesn't matter what place you are in the league, it's a derby.

“If anything, it's a good moment to go into a derby. I guess the momentum is a little bit with our neighbours at the moment but it's the perfect place for us to go and try to rectify what we've had on Monday,” the Belgian defender told reporters, ahead of the fixture.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men are currently in 4th place in the standings with 61 points in 31 matches and while it does look difficult for them to retain the title, they won last year, Kompany wished for his side to return to their best as early as possible as he felt that a strong finish to the League could have an impact next year as well.

"For me, my only concern is we get back to our best form. I've learnt from the past seasons as well that finishing a season strongly can have an impact on your next season as well,” he said.
