Top 10 Contenders for Golden Boot award

Perhaps not the most prestigious awards in the world but it surely is one of the most prestigious awards in England for any player in the Barclays Premier League. Those who have won the award in the past are widely recognized around the world and are the most sought after players by other clubs. Last year it was a tie between Dimitar Berbatov and Carlos Tevez.

Let us have a look at the Top 10 Contenders for the Prestigious award in the upcoming Barclays Premier League Season:

10) Darren Bent:

At Number 10 comes Darren Bent who had a good last season playing half of it with Sunderland and then moving on to Aston Villa in the January transfer window. An excellent finisher with nice off the ball movement and heading ability can see him score some really brilliant goals which any striker would be proud off. He Scored 8 goals in 20 appearences in the league for sunderland last season and 9 goals in 16 appearences in the league for Aston Villa which equals as 17 goals in 36 Appearences in the Barclays Premier League last Season. This makes him one of the real contenders for the Boot this season.

9) Rafael Van Der Vaart:

At number 9 we have Spurs starlet Rafael Van Der Vaart who proved to be a superb buy for Spurs last year. He scored 13 goals in 28 League Games last season which Saw spurs qualify for the Europa League and finish a respectful 5th. He can score goals and also give assists as he plays just behind the striker and is a real good finisher and shooter of the ball. He made 9 assists last season. Can he repeat last season’s success and win the boot this season? Let’s wait and see.

8) Gervinho:

At number 8 we have new Arsenal signing Gervinho, who played a major role in Lille’s league campaign that saw them clinch the Ligue One after 57 years, by scoring 15 goals in 35 appearances. A player whose traits match the Gunners style of play, his passing skills are decent, a good finisher and can score goals. Though he is still new to the Premier League and needs time to adjust, who knows he may just fit in very well and become top scorer and help Arsenal end their title draught.

7) Sergio Aguero:

At Number 7 we have new Manchester City star Sergio Kun Aguero, who has made a name for himself in Europe before arriving at the Premier League. Last Season he Scored 20 Goals with Atletico madrid in 32 League games and is a prominent goalscorer and a real threat to any defense in the world. He can make an immediate impact for Man City and help them challenge for the title this season.

6) Andy Carrol:

At Number 6, we have Liverpool striker Andy Carrol who was bought by Liverpool for a record 35m Pounds in the January transfer window after making a huge impact with Newcastle by scoring 11 goals in 19 games for them. He has made 5 league appearances for Liverpool and has scored 2 goals in it. His ability to win balls in the air and a thunderous left foot makes him a complete forward and he definitely will challenge for the Golden Boot next season.

5) Fernando Torres:

In at number 5, we have Chelsea striker Fernando Torres who although had a horrid season last season with both Liverpool and Chelsea managed to score 10 goals in 37 league appearances. After a good pre-season, he looks to be fit and raring to go. Many may criticize me for this choice, but I think he will score many goals with Chelsea this season, and also coach Andre-Villas Boas knows how to get the best out of his players.

4) Wayne Rooney:

At number 4, we have Man Utd star Wayne Rooney, who had a mixed season last year. He Scored 11 goals last season in 28 games and assisted many goals but this season with Young coming in and Sir Alex also in the lookout for the replacement for Paul Scholes, Rooney will do what he does best, i.e., score goals. He will want to win the boot and help United to there 20th Premier League Title.

3) Luis Suarez:

At number 3, we have Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who although did’nt score many goals as he only played 13 games in the league after coming in the January transfer window, will look to show his true class this season by giving as many goals as he can and help Liverpool challenge for the title.

2) Robin Van Persie:

At number two, we have Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie, who scored 18 League goals last season in only 25 matches he played for Arsenal and if he continues with the form in which he left off he is surely a top contender for this award. He will also look to help Arsenal in challenging for the title and win some trophies.

1) Javier Hernandez:

At number one, we have Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez, who was one of the buys of last season. He scored 13 goals for the Red Devils in 27 Games and most of them after coming on as a substitute. He will be looking to score more goals this season and can be considered a top contender for the Golden Boot this season.

I haven’t included Berbatov and Tevez because I don’t think Berba will not get as many chances as he got last season and Tevez will most probably move to somewhere else.

These are my contenders for the Barclays Golden Boot for next season, now let’s see who wins it.
