Lampard captained the side in his absence and was a key part in Chelsea winning the trophy as he netted his penalty in the decisive shoot-out that saw the Blues become the first side from London to win the Champions League trophy.
5) Brace vs. Aston Villa on 12th May 2013 – Chelsea were losing 1-0 thanks to a Christian Benteke strike. Lampard hadn’t had the best of games but stepped up when it mattered the most, scoring two goals to ensure Chelsea got the victory. Those two goals also saw the midfielder become Chelsea’s all-time leading goal-scorer with 203 goals, surpassing Bobby Tambling’s record. The whole season had been a mixed one for Lampard as he struggled with his form as well as his contract situation. He was eventually handed a new contract at the end of the season.
