Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara will be out of action for seven weeks after the Spanish international picked up an ankle injury.
The club announced the news on their official Twitter account after their 2-0 victory over Nurnberg on Saturday. Thiago will undergo surgery on Monday and will miss the upcoming Bundesliga matches against Freiburg, Hannover, Schalke and Wolfsburg. He will also be unavailable for the start of the Champions League.
Thiago was made Pep Guardiola’s number one target for the summer and the manager acquired his services despite huge interest from Manchester United for the former Barcelona player.
Bayern enjoyed a treble last season, and have started the season on a good note by winning their first three matches in the league.
