Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has congratulated his former team-mate Cesc Fabregas after he completed a move to Chelsea from Barcelona.
The 27-year-old midfielder ended months of speculation regarding his future when it was announced that he had joined the west Londoners earlier this afternoon, just hours before the opening game of the World Cup.
The news was not well received by the some Gunners fans who were left disgruntled by the fact that manager Arsene Wenger decided not to re-sign their former captain despite having the option to do so, courtesy of a buy back clause that was inserted into Fabregas’ contract when he left Arsenal for the Camp Nou in 2011.
However, while the midfielder’s decision to join one of Arsenal’s Premier League rivals has attracted a great deal of criticism, Henry, who is the club’s all-time leading goal scorer, offered words of encouragement.
Meanwhile, the arrival of Fabregas represents a real coup for Chelsea considering the talent, creativity and stature of the Spaniard. With a player of his calibre in their ranks, Jose Mourinho’s midfield will be a force to be reckoned with next season.
No player in Europe’s top five leagues has provided more assists than Cesc Fabregas (24) in the past two seasons.
