1949: On this day, Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee was born.

1896: Ranjitsinhji completes 154* on his Test Cricket debut vs Australia at Old Trafford.

Football:

2005: Shaun Wright-Phillips became Chelsea‘s fourth signing of the summer of 2005 when he joined the Barclays Premier League champions from Manchester City.

Golf:

1959: William Wright becomes the first black man to win a major golf tournament.
