Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have announced that Thomas Tuchel will take over from Jurgen Klopp as the new manager once the season is over. Tuchel signed a three-year contract and will take over the club officially in July 2015.
Klopp had announced earlier this week that he would be stepping down as Dortmund manager at the end of the season even though he had a contract until 2018. The club had also confirmed that they would release Klopp from his contract in spite of having three more years left to run.
Tuchel follows in Klopp’s footsteps also having coached Mainz. He was a target for other Bundesliga clubs like Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen. The 41-year-old manager had led Mainz to a seventh-placed finish last season and asked to be released from his contract in May 2014. But Mainz had refused and he has been on a sabbatical ever since.
Not planning on taking a sabbatical: Jurgen Klopp
Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp told the press that he would not be taking a sabbatical but had not had any contact with other clubs either.
Klopp said: “I am not tired. I may look tired but I am not. I am 0.0% tired.
“I haven’t had any contact with any other clubs but am not planning a sabbatical.
“I have always said that the day I feel that I am no longer the perfect coach for this extraordinary club I will say that. That is something I have thought about in every phase here at Dortmund and decided in the last few weeks, days, that I was no longer able to be absolutely sure about that.
“And then, because of the unusual relationship I have with this club, the trust we have for each other, it was my duty to tell the club.”
