Juan Mata's relationship with Mourinho goes back to his time at Chelsea. Juan Mata had already made a good impression on the Blues faithful, winning Chelsea's Player of the Year award two seasons in a row since he arrived.

Mourinho made a sensational return to Stamford Bridge in 2013 after then-manager Andre Villas-Boas was sacked after only nine months.

During this time, Mata struggled to adapt to his new position at the wings to suit the Portuguese's style of play. His inability to adapt to Mourinho's tactics soon saw him off the first team and eventually sold to Manchester United.

The two reunited at Manchester United in 2016 amongst fears of yet another fallout. The feud appeared to have settled down as Mata has featured in games under Mourinho since then, but now it appears the rift has once again come up.

Reports have emerged that Mourinho had unleashed a tirade at Mata as well and this has prompted the former Chelsea man to publish an unusual personal blog to address the problems at Old Trafford.

The blog read, "Today, my blog post is shorter than usual."

"In fact, it isn't really a time for posts. I want to thank all of you who support us during these tough times. I understand your frustrations."

"The upcoming game against Valencia is a special one for me."

"But above all it is another chance to get back to winning ways."
