It’s that time of the year where every player wants to leave/join a club, win silverware and earn a big fat pay cheque. And when the club in question is Manchester United, it doesn’t get any better. Almost every football star is linked with a move to Man Utd at some point in his career. And who wouldn’t want to be. And although at this moment it’s the Kagawas and the Modrics that are being linked to United, the following players would perfectly fit into the Manchester United.
1. BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER
This guy is probably the most underrated player in comparison with his teammates at Bayern Munich. But without him, Bayern wouldn’t have been the team they are today. A left midfielder who can also play on the right, he’s primarily plies his trade in the centre of the park and has excellent dribbling skills. He can also play as a defensive midfielder, or behind the striker. He is a specialist in set pieces, an area where United lack potency. Schweinsteiger is also known for his trademark long range strikes. To top it all, Schweini has experience which is a prerequisite for a midfielder. He’s a vital cog in the German national team too. With his attacking prowess and defending know-how, Schweinsteiger would complement well in attack with someone like Tom Cleverley. It would also reduce the burden on Scholes and Carrick.
2.IKER MUNIAIN
Iker Muniain is another exceptionally talented player coming through Athletic Bilbao‘s academy. A left winger by trade, he was occasionally used by Marcelo Bielsa as a striker, as Bilbao bulldozed their way into the Europa league final. They also demolished Manchester United over two legs. And Muniain played his part creating two goals, and scoring one over the two legs.
His raw pace combined with his dribbling skills led the media to label him as the ‘Spanish Messi’. A huge comparison indeed. But one place where he could live up to that tag is at Old Trafford. He will also be under the guidance of the best manager available in English football. So it’s a win-win situation. His signing would also be in line with United’s policy of bringing in youth as he is only 21.
3. JORDI ALBA
Another spanish youngster is being linked with United. This story has some credibility to it as well.
Starting off as a left midfielder, Alba was deputised as a left back due to injuries by Unai Emry. But he thrived as a left back scoring a goal along with three assists.
That form has earned him a place in the Spanish national team, and no wonder he is being courted by Barcelona and United.
Add to that the decline in form of Patrice Evra, Alba would straight away challenge for the left back spot in the starting XI.
And although he being a Catalan, would most probably move to the Camp nou, a move to Old Trafford would be ideal as well.
Having said that, expect the genius (you know who) to come up with a solution, as United look to reestablish domestic and continental dominance.
