The 0-0 draw against Everton has seen Liverpool lose their top position as Manchester City have now taken a one-point lead in the league. It was Liverpool's fourth draw since the turn of the year and this has allowed Man City to come right back into the title race.
In fact, The Reds had the chance to go ten points clear of their rivals when the two sides met at the Etihad in January, but City managed to inflict the first and only defeat of Klopp's side this season and since then Liverpool have somewhat dipped in form.
With just 9 games to go, the title is now City's to lose and here are 3 reasons why the Citizens have an edge over their rivals for the Premier League title this season:
#3 Liverpool's attack misfiring and lack of creativity in the middle
Liverpool are a team that depends largely on their front three for goals and when the trio are not performing well, we can see that the team struggles to score goals. Manchester City, on the other hand, have goals all around the team for them and if one player is having an off game then other players step up for him.
In recent games, we have seen that Liverpool are not doing particularly well in front of goal and have failed to convert some easy chances, as was the case against Everton. Also, The Reds lack a goalscoring midfielder who can release a bit of pressure from the shoulders of the front three.
Injuries to players like Oxlade Chamberlain is also not helping their cause. The lack of a creative midfielder who can unlock tight defenses with his craftiness and create chances for his team also furthers their problems. With only a few games remaining this season, Liverpool can't afford to play the way they did against Everton and the whole team, especially the midfield needs to step up.
#2 City have been there and done it
One psychological advantage that City have over Liverpool is that their players have the past experience of winning the Premier League. On the other hand, most of Liverpool players have never won the title before and this title race is completely a new experience to them.
City have won the League 3 times since the start of the decade and the players know what it takes in the final few games of the season. In fact, two out of the three titles that they have won have been when they were chasing the leaders and won it in the final day of the season.
This shows that the club has the mentality to fight right until the end. Of course, these past experiences count to nothing if the team does not win the games but given the previous records, City do have a slight mental advantage over Liverpool in the title race.
#1 The pressure is on Liverpool's shoulders
With only 9 games remaining and Liverpool now being behind City in the title race, the pressure is now on Klopp's men as they aim to end the long-awaited wait for the Premier League trophy at Anfield.
Liverpool have not won the league in over 30 years and with this year being their best chance to win one, the players must surely be facing a lot of pressure from the fans. We have seen Liverpool somewhat slip up in the title race and hand Man City an advantage and one reason for this is pressure.
City have also done an excellent job of staying close to Liverpool and have been rewarded with a one-point lead. So the question is, can Liverpool win their first league title since 1990 or will the pressure be too hot to handle for the Merseysiders? Only time tell.
