Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago has reportedly agreed to join Chelsea, after rejecting offers from Monaco and Zenit St.Petersburg.
Tiago has been highly sought-after by a number of clubs, but Chelsea have managed to snap up the Portuguese ahead of other clubs, according to journalist Goncalo Lopes.
Tiago worked under Jose Mourinho during the Portuguese managers first spell in west London, but was subsequently moved on before settling down at Atletico.
The Portuguese midfielder has become an integral part of an Atletico Madrid team which won the La Liga this season and were runners-up in the Champions League final, losing 4-1 to their close rivals Real Madrid.
Despite being an important member of the team, Tiago is out of contract this summer and that has prompted Jose Mourinho to make a move for the 33-year-old anchor man.
Atletico’s main men have been linked with moves away, with many believing their outstanding performances both domestically and in Europe has put the club under the spotlight in terms of putting their star players on the market.
The signing of Tiago could be the third for Chelsea, with Diego Costa expected to be joined by Felipe Luis from Atletico this summer as well.
