Australia international Tim Cahill has opted out of his team’s friendly against Brazil due to an injury, Sports Fan reports.
The former Everton striker stated that he is unable to play for his country in Brazil after sustaining an ankle injury while playing with his current team, New York Red Bulls in an MLS game against DC United.
The forward scored his 8th goal of the season and set up another, helping his team to a 2-1 victory, only to be hauled off in the 58th minute with an injury. He was replaced with former French star Thierry Henry.
The scans of his injury, which were taken after the game, appear to suggest the need of caution for the forward.
Cahill wrote later on Twitter:
