Rumours: Liverpool and Spurs linked with Toby Alderweireld

Premier League sides Liverpool and Tottenham are being linked with Atletico Madrid’s centre back Toby Alderweireld.

Liverpool are short at the back after injuries to Daniel Agger, Mamadou Sakho and Sebastien Coates. Youngster Tiago Illori has been loaned out for the rest of the season. Spurs on the other hand have sometimes deployed midfielder Capoue in defence to cover up for their injuries.

The defender has become disillusioned with lack of games at Atletico and told Sport-1 : “I miss Ajax, their style of play, my ex-teammates – at Atleti, I can’t be happy if I’m not playing.”

“The team is doing well and I continue to fight for my place, but I don’t think it’s my fault.”

The defender will cost upto £6.1 million.
