Following the end of their La Liga campaign, Real Sociedad journey to the Japan National Stadium to face Tokyo Verdy in an end-of-season friendly on Wednesday (May 29). Imanol Barrenetxea’s men secured their spot in next season’s UEFA Europa League after finishing sixth in La Liga.
Tokyo returned to winning ways on Sunday, edging out Vissel Kobe 1-0 at the Misaki Park Stadium in the J1 League. Before that, Hiroshi Jofuku’s side were on a four-game winless run, losing twice, including a 3-2 defeat to Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the J League Cup on May 22.
Tokyo are 12th in the J1 League with 21 points from 16 game and will look to pick up a morale-boosting result against a well-drilled Sociedad side. The Spanish outfit brought their La Liga campaign to an end on May 25 with a 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid.
Despite winning three of their final eight games, Barrenetxea’s men secured their spot in the Europa League by finishing sixth with 60 points from 38 matches. Sociedad will look to return to winning ways as they begin preparations for the new campaign.
