A classy Bayern Munich put 2 goals past 10 man Arsenal last night at the Emirates in the Champions League which seemingly ended their oppositions hopes of progressing in the competition. Pep Guardiola’s men put in a stand out performance in London and rarely gave Arsenal a chance to fightback. The defending Champions have now received a big boost in their quest to reclaim the trophy and are now favorites for the title this year. Bayern’s goals were scored by Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller but the former was the most outstanding player for the Bavarians. Kroos scored a cracker of a goal which flew into the far right of the post past a helpless Lukasz Fabianski helping Bayern win the match. Kroos showed just why a team like Manchester United are chasing him for his signature.
The 24-year-old German literally controlled the game yesterday making 147 passes which almost matched the total of the entire Arsenal team who managed 158. Manchester United need this type of player who can create chances as well as score goals and after Kroos’s recent heroics he has certainly got United’s attention. The midfielder’s valuation must have certainly gone up after last nights match making it harder for the Old Trafford club to capture him but there is still hope as the player in in a contract tussle with the club and his agent recently admitted that his client is open to a move in England.
Another reason why Manchester United should break the bank to acquire Kroos is his versatility. Former Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes used Kroos as a defensive midfielder last season but he still managed to score 9 goals and help his team win the treble. This season under Guardiola’s leadership Kroos operates as an attacker and has excelled if not thrived in that role. Very few players are as good in multiple positions which makes the midfielder an even bigger asset. The Germany international can be used as a holding midfielder in the center of the park behind Juan Mata and can control the game for the Red Devils. The midfielder can also break up the oppositions play when he is called upon which can come in handy for his team.
Kroos can have the Mesut Ozil effect for Manchester United and completely change their fortunes next season. Ozil was also on the pitch with Kroos in the opposite team but it is safe to say that the latter won the battle of the midfielders yesterday. Kroos is a player who can be relied upon in every game whereas Ozil has been brilliant but unreliable for the Gunners and easily put in his worst performance of the season in yesterday’s match. But it can be safely said that it will take a kings ransom to lure Kroos to Manchester much like it took over £40 million pounds to get Ozil to London.
Fans can expect to see a lot of rumors linking Kroos to the Red Devils now who will surely pursue the player before the World Cup as he can be acquired for a comparatively cheaper rate before he heads to Brazil. Oh! and David Moyes was in the crowd scouting the the player. The Scot is sure to have liked what he saw and is preparing to get his cheque-book out.
