Reports: Toni Kroos keen on joining Premier League giants

What's the rumour?

Manchester United have been way behind Manchester City in the Premier League this season. With Mourinho looking to strengthen in the summer transfer window, latest reports in Spanish daily Don Balon claim that Real Madrid star Toni Kroos is all prepared to leave La Liga and make a move to Old Trafford.

With Michael Carrick retiring at the end of the season and Marouane Fellaini expected to depart at the end of this campaign, the signing of Kroos would definitely add strength and quality to the Manchester United midfield.

Arguably the best and most complete central midfielder in world football at the moment, Toni Kroos has been crucial to Real Madrid's dominance in the last few years. Having moved in 2014 for a fee of just €28 million, the German midfielder has been one of the bargain buys of this century.

After starting this season slowly, Kroos has rediscovered his best form and Zidane will be hoping that the 28-year-old midfielder continues to perform strongly in the remainder of this season.

The heart of the matter

Capable of unlocking defences with a single pass, Kroos' ball retention skills is next to none. With United lacking creativity in the centre, the German's potential arrival could solve that problem and revitalise Paul Pogba as well.

However, with Modric ageing and Kovacic not yet world class, Madrid will be very reluctant to sell the midfield maestro.

Although United have been linked with Kroos for quite some time now, it seems highly unlikely that Zidane will be ready to sell one of the best players in his squad next summer.

Also, Don Balon is not very reliable and one should always take their rumours with a pinch of salt.

Kroos could be Manchester United's answer to Kevin De Bruyne if they do somehow manage to pull off this incredible transfer. However, with the German star at the peak of his game, Real Madrid will be determined to hold on to him for the foreseeable future and a move looks highly unlikely in the summer transfer window.
