Arsenal legend Tony Adams believes that Bayern Munich must kick Wayne Rooney to stop him when Manchester United face the German giants.
United are in dire straights at the minute having lost to Manchester City on Tuesday night and with Robin van Persie out injured for the huge European tie, Rooney will start up front for David Moyes’ side.
The Englishman is closing in on becoming United’s best ever goalscorer and is near the top of the Premier League standings – he also has 29 goals in 79 Champions League games – so Adams thinks Bayern must get into his head.
“Without a doubt, Wayne Rooney is one of the best attackers in the world,” Adams said in Sport Bild.
“How do you play against him? I would have kicked him off the pitch. I think looking at his performances in recent years, then you have to say he can look frustrated fairly quickly.
“When somebody provokes him, he tends to overreact like no other player.
“He can be easily goaded. But if you let him play, then he will play. And then Bayern Munich will have a problem.”
