The Premier League weekend offered a lot of entertainment, as 21 goals were scored in the 10 matches played. Here is a statistics countdown of the major numbers that were breached this week:
- Asmir Begovic scored a freak goal this weekend in the first minute of Stoke’s game against Southampton to put the Potters in the lead. Given Stoke’s struggles upfront this season, the Bosnian became the club’s joint-top scorer with one goal with his 98-yard effort.
- Chelsea recorded their second loss away from home this season against Newcastle United over the weekend, putting their record for the season to one victory in five encounters on their travels.
- After suffering a goal drought earlier in the season, Robin van Persie now has scored in three consecutive matches for Manchester United, helping in the club’s resurgence in recent weeks.
- Except the relegated teams, Aston Villa conceded the most goals for any Premier League side last season (69). However, a huge turnaround this term has seen them record four successive clean sheets away from home.
- Arsenal currently are five points ahead of their nearest competition at the top of the Premier League table, which incidentally is their biggest lead since 2008, five years ago.
– Fulham slumped to their sixth defeat in the Premier League this season, putting them only two points away from the relegation zone. They also recorded their sixth straight defeat against Manchester United on Saturday.
- Lee Cattermole got sent off for a poor tackle against Hull City this weekend, taking his career red cards tally to seven. He is now in fourth-place for most Premier League red cards, behind Patrick Vieira, Duncan Ferguson and Richard Dunne. With Cattermole only 25 years of age, he has enough time to reach the top of that list.
- With another goal to add to his three assists against Norwich, Sergio Aguero reached eight goals for the season, and is currently the joint-top scorer in the division along with Daniel Sturridge.
- They might be sitting in fourth on the table, but Tottenham Hotspur’s league position does not show the fact that they have scored only 9 goals from 10 games despite heavy investments in their attack over the summer.
- Aaron Ramsey has already reached 10 goals for the season in less than 3 months, which is exactly as many goals as the midfielder had scored in his last four years at Arsenal.
