Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has brought more than just good vibes back to Manchester United, he has brought back the tradition of giving youth a chance. In only his second match in charge of the Red Devils, Solskjaer gave Angel Gomes a run from the bench and in the FA Cup against Reading.
Since Ole's arrival, there has been a lot of positivity around Old Trafford. There have been so many youngsters that have been brought back to the fold into the first team environment and Old Trafford has again been justified on being called the Theatre of Dreams.
Here are five more youth academy players who may debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this year.
#5 Ethan Laird
Ethan Laird is a full-back who can play both as a right-back and a left-back. He has a lot of qualities that could see him have a big impact in the Premier League; he's physically very solid, despite not being the tallest, and he can fill in as a centre-back, which he does regularly for England's under 18's because he reads the game so well.
Laird is an aggressive tackler, but his enthusiasm for the tackle could also be seen by some as one of his biggest weaknesses and it's something that could be exploited in game. It works in this young U18 side but it's something you have to be aware of as he progresses.
What makes Laird stand out is what he does on the ball and that's why he's on this list. Ethan has a flair about him in the final third; he's as adept at grabbing an assist as he is getting a goal and he's scored 18 goals from left back at U16 level. Ethan has a lot of quality about him and he's a real throwback to the rough and tumble of the past. With United crying for depth and quality at the back, Ethan could just get the nod from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
#4 Dylan Levitt
Dylan is the kind of midfielder who has a knack of finding time and space on the ball. There are a lot of similarities in his style that could be compared to Paul Scholes: he can score goals, sit deep and dictate the match - and he can also dive and kick you like Scholes.
Levitt is a quiet lad on the pitch; he goes about his job with workmanlike steel, and that is impressive but not as impressive as the vision and the range of passing that he posses. His ability to deliver the right pass at the right time is one of the reasons why he's very highly rated.
Dylan has a brilliant footballing brain, which Manchester United have always appreciated. So with Michael Carrick second in command, there could be a big chance ahead for Levitt if he remains consistent.
#3 Ro-Shaun Williams
Ro-Shaun Williams is a little bit older than the rest of this list and is a centre-back by trade. He entered U23 football at a very young age, and he did that because he was already developed mentally and physically. He shows incredible character and is a genuine leader which is rare in these modern times.
Whilst most players are timid, quiet and selfish, Williams will do everything for the team, whether it be through sheer encouragement or putting his body on the line to stop a goal, he does it all. He's also surprisingly fast for a player of his stature and he posses a good ability on the ball. Williams is also good in the air, so he has all the traits to be a brilliant defender in the future.
All Williams needs is a chance and with a complete lack of centre-backs available and question marks over the long-term quality of the centre-backs currently present at Manchester United, Williams should already be getting in and around the senior squad and having bench time if not getting minutes late in games.
#2 James Garner
James Garner is a player who has captained Manchester United at every single age group. The 17-year-old midfielder has the leadership and character which is so rare and yet so needed to break in at this level.
Garner is comfortable at centre-back and also as a central defensive midfielder. I'm really excited to see what he can develop into with Michael Carrick giving a guiding hand. He was taken on United's pre-season tour back in the summer, which would have been a great learning experience for the young midfielder.
He has already been named on the substitute bench several times under Ole and he seems to be the next one to get debuted. Garner is a player who has a lot of potential to be a lynch-pin for whatever side he ends up in, and some have suggested that he's already better than Scott McTominay, who has been playing sporadically for United's first team in recent months.
#1 Mason Greenwood
Of course, number one is Mason Greenwood. He's a once in a lifetime player and he needs good development so that he's challenged and protected in the right way. His record at youth level is frankly ridiculous - he has 39 goals and 15 assists in 36 games.
We have seen what Jadon Sancho went on to produce at Dortmund and Greenwood has everything in him to do just that. He is striker by trade but one could expect him to end up getting a chance at the wide right position due to the lack of depth in the United have on the right side. Greenwood isn't just about goals, though, he's got a ridiculous pass on him and he isn't selfish in his play.
I firmly believe that Greenwood will get his debut this season but the club has to go in the right way about him. His time is going to come and he will see action and when he does, United will have a superstar on their hands.
