The German all-time record goalscorer is Gerd Muller with a phenomenal 365 goals, as current Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes sits in third with 220 goals.
Here we take a look at five of the most active goalscorers in the league.
#5 Vedad Ibisevic (108 goals in 271 appearances)
Yugoslavian born Bosnian international footballer, Vedad Ibisevic made his professional debut for PSG in 2004. He was spotted playing in the USA by then PSG manager Vahid Halilhodzic, who signed the youngster.
After failing to make a significant impact, Ibisevic moved to German Bundesliga 2 side 1899 Hoffenheim in 2007 via Alemannia Aachen, who he signed for a year earlier. The Bosnian guided the club into the top flight of German football and has never looked back since.
After five seasons at 1899 Hoffenheim, in 2012 he moved to Stuttgart where he plied his trade for four seasons. A prolific goalscorer, Ibisevic moved to Hertha Berlin in 2016 after spending a year on loan at the club in the 15-16 season.
The Bosnian forward has netted 108 goals in his 271 Bundesliga appearances.
#4 Stefan Kiessling (144 goals in 398 appearances)
Former German international and FC Nurnberg striker, Stefan Kiessling is a veteran Bundesliga player who has played for only two clubs during his the course of his career.
In 2006, after four years with FC Nurnberg, Kiessling joined Bayer Leverkusen and has remained at the club till date. Currently, in his 14th year at the club, the German has featured for the national side in the 2010 World Cup, making three appearances during the tournament as Germany finished in third place.
Kiessling has scored 144 goals in 398 Bundesliga appearances and is still an integral part of the Leverkusen setup. Former club captain, Kiessling has made over 300 appearances for the club and the 33-year is showing no signs of calling an end to his career.
The German sits in fourth place on the active list of Bundesliga goal scorers and is 17th on the all-time list.
#3 Mario Gomez (155 goals in 277 appearances)
Germany and VfL Wolfsburg striker Mario Gomez has scored 155 goals in 277 Bundesliga appearances during his time with three different clubs in the German top-flight.
Gomez began his career at Stuttgart as he worked his way up the ranks to the first team, making his debut in 2003. After six strong seasons at the club and a Bundesliga title to his name, Gomez moved to German giants Bayern Munich as he spent the next four years of his career with the Bavarian giants.
In 2013, Gomez opted to move to Italy enjoying three good seasons at Fiorentina, following which the German then joined Turkish club Besiktas for a year before moving to Wolfsburg.
The big striker was part of the German 2010 World Cup squad that finished third but missed out on the squad that claimed the world title four years later at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. However, the 32-year-old striker is keen to make the squad for Russia 2018 as national glory on the international stage eludes the veteran forward.
#2 Robert Lewandowski (164 goals in 240 appearances)
Polish and Bayern Munich talisman, Robert Lewandowksi sits second on the active list of Bundesliga goal scorers and 11th on the all-time goal scorers list.
The former Znicz Pruszków and Lech Pozna? striker, Lewandowski began his career in Poland in 2006 spending two years at both clubs.
In 2010, Borussia Dortmund came calling as the current Polish captain moved to Germany and made a stunning impact scoring numerous goals and guided Dortmund to two consecutive Bundesliga titles in his four years at the club.
A shock move to rivals Bayern Munich was completed in 2014, with the striker becoming an instrumental asset in helping Bayern to three consecutive Bundesliga titles in three seasons.
A magnificent goal scorer with great ability with both his feet and in the air, Lewandowksi is one the most sought-after goalscoring forwards in the world.
#1 Claudio Pizzaro (191 goals in 434 appearances)
The Peruvian and FC Koln striker, Claudio Pizarro is one of the most underrated forwards in the history of the German top-flight. He is fifth on the all-time list of goal scorers in the Bundesliga and tops the active list of Bundesliga goal scorers.
Pizarro made his professional debut in Peru for Deportivo Pesquero in 1996 before moving to Alianza Lima in 1997. In 1999, German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen signed the striker and he made a significant impact scoring 30 goals in two seasons.
Bayern Munich came calling in 2001, as Pizarro joined the Bavarians and stayed with the German giants till 2007 notching in goals season after season. A move to Chelsea in 2007 followed but the Peruvian failed to make an impact in the Premier League and rejoined Bremen for two years, before rejoining Bayern Munich in 2012.
The multiple time Bundesliga winner and Champions League winner in 2013, Pizarro moved back to Weder Bremen for the third time in 2015 before joining FC Koln in 2017, where he continues to ply his trade.
