4. Eliaquim Mangala to Manchester City
A host of clubs including Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain were interested in capturing Mangala but City were the first club to actively pursue the player.
The 22-year-old is tipped to be one of the best center backs in the world in a few years time and is an integral part of Porto and the France national team. Porto players have a history of being extremely expensive but City were willing to part with £38 million for Mangala.
The deal ultimately fell though for unknown reasons and Mangala will stay with the Portuguese club for the rest of the season. City will face competition from other clubs if they attempt to reignite their pursuit of the Frenchman in the summer who’s value will almost certainly increase after the World Cup.
