Luka Modric has been a lynchpin in last season's La Liga winners Real Madrid's midfield for almost a decade.

The Croatian midfielder has established himself as one of the best in the world during his time at the club. Even at 35, Modric continues to be one of Real Madrid's key players.

The midfielder has shown that even during the twilight of his career, he can still run the show from the centre of the park. Picking up Modric for free at the end of the season would be a huge coup for any team.

#4 Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid)

Sergio Ramos has been at Real Madrid since 2005.
Sergio Ramos has been at Real Madrid since 2005.

It would be the end of an era when Sergio Ramos leaves Real Madrid. The Spaniard looks set to leave the Santiago Bernabeu after over 15 years at the club. Ramos has almost 700 appearances for the Los Blancos, scoring 100 goals as well, which is an incredible feat for a centre-back.

Sergio Ramos, now 34, has been arguably one of the world's best defenders in the last decade or so and hasn't lost a step for Real Madrid at the back. The Spaniard currently captains both club and country.

Any team that does sign Ramos in the summer would instantly become a better side, as the Spaniard would easily walk into any back-line in world football. Ramos would provide a team with a leader at the back, who isn't afraid of the physical side of the game. The Spaniard is also a huge threat at corners as well as set-pieces.

#1 Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

The unthinkable could finally happen this summer, as Lionel Messi reaches the end of his contract at Barcelona.

The Argentine has become synonymous with the Blaugrana, and it would be inconceivable to see him in any other uniform and lining up for any other team. However, that could be the case come June, as Lionel Messi is yet to sign a new contract to extend his stay at the La Liga club.

Messi famously asked for a move away from Barcelona in the summer, as he had grown frustrated with the direction the La Liga club were going in.

Barcelona, unsurprisingly, did not accede to his request, which left Messi displeased and distraught. Both Barcelona and Lionel Messi have had rocky starts to the season so far, but it would be naive to start doubting the Argentine's abilities.

The 33-year-old is arguably one of the best players to have graced the game and has shown no signs of slowing down any time soon. Lionel Messi would transform any team he joins and would make them instant title contenders.
