Ralph Hasenhüttl is easily the lesser known name in this list but if he’s given an opportunity to work with a popular European club, then he may surprise a few people.
The 51-year-old made headlines when he took over as manager of FC Ingolstadt 04 in October 2013. When he was appointed the club’s manager, they were bottom of the 2.Bundesliga table and he guided them to a 10th placed finish.
In his first full season with Ingolstadt, Hasenhüttl took the club to the Bundesliga for the first time as second division Champions and in 2015/16, he ensured that they retained their top-flight status with a respectable 11th in the table.
At the end of the 2015/16 season, Hasenhüttl chose not to renew his contract and took over as manager of Bundesliga debutants RB Leipzig.
In the first season under Hasenhüttl, Leipzig defied odds by finishing 2nd in the league and thus qualified for the Champions League. The following season, Leipzig could only manage a Europa League spot.
He parted ways with Leipzig at the end of the 2017/18 season as he couldn’t agree on a long-term contract with the club.
A club like Southampton with good resources and a lot of fantastic young players would be a perfect fit for Hasenhüttl.
