Michu is another, like Benteke, who has seriously struggled to make an impact in his second season in England. He has two goals from 12 games this season. He has been injured and suffered from niggling pain throughout the season but after 12 matches last season, he’d scored seven goals and had shocked everyone.
Michu finished with 18 goals and cost Swansea just £2 million. He was a key figure in their Capital One Cup win and was one of the main reasons for their good performances.
However, this season he has struggled immensely. Is he just another one-season wonder?
Daniel Agger – Liverpool
Daniel Agger is possibly the most controversial of views in this list. The Liverpool vice-captain has been at the club since 2006 and played just 166 league matches. In the past, he has been seen as a starter at Liverpool whenever he’s fit.
However, in the past year, he’s had plenty of critics. He has been culpable for many goals the Reds conceded in the past year and seems to struggle terribly when faced with a powerful centre forward. He’s won 54% of his tackles (13/24) this season which isn’t great, either.
The criticism has grown since the arrival of Mamadou Sakho in the summer, who has shown how good he is in Agger’s position. He’s powerful, fast, clever and can bring the ball forward, proven with his 92% passing accuracy (the best at Liverpool). The Danish defender has really struggled to move Sakho out of the starting line-up with injury to the Frenchman the only thing that allows Agger to play.
A year ago, to suggest Daniel Agger was overrated would have been laughed at. Now? It’s a considered point of view amongst many Liverpool fans.
