With Rooney demanding a transfer request, let’s look at potential transfers to replace him for the new Manchester United boss David Moyes.
Karim Benzema
According to reports from The Sun, Manchester United are preparing a £30 million move for Karim Benzema this summer. The Real Madrid forward could consider a move this summer after doubts over Mourinho’s relation with the club and various unsettled team-mates. However, Benzema’s agent rubbished the rumours linking him with the English champions and revealed that the Frenchman will stay at the club and any transfer this summer is not an option.
Robert Lewandowski
The Polish has been on Sir Alex Ferguson’s radar for quite some time and could suggest his successor David Moyes to seal a deal with the unsettled striker to replace Wayne Rooney. Last year, Manchester United signed Lewandowski’s former attacking team-mate Shinji Kagawa and Borussia Dortmund are prepared to sell the striker this summer rather than risk letting him leave the club next season, for free. Lewandowski’s brilliant performances in this season’s Champions League could prove decisive in Manchester United’s quest to sign the Poland International.
Radamel Falcao
Currently, Falcao is considered as one of the finest of strikers in the world. Earlier this season, the Colombian hinted at a possibilty of a transfer to the Premier League in the future and has impressed Sir Alex Ferguson with his goal scoring habit over the years. According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United want to sign the £47 million-rated striker and are willing to allow Javier Hernandez to move to Madrid as part of the deal.
Gareth Bale
The PFA Player of the Year is one of the surprise packages this season due to his brilliant performances for the London club. The Welsh wizard has single-handedly kept Tottenham Hotspur in the race for next season’s Champions League qualification. This season, Bale has consistently linked with a move to the English Champions. However, Spurs boss Andres Villas Boas has revealed that Manchester United will find it difficult to sign his star man. Earlier a left-back and then a left winger, Gareth Bale has now switched to play behind the main forward, which could be a decent signing to replace the unsettled Wayne Rooney.
With on-going speculation of Cristiano Ronaldo being sad with the current Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, a return to Old Trafford could be a perfect destination for the Portuguese, and for Manchester United a perfect signing to replace Rooney. The 28-year-old striker moved to Real Madrid in the June of 2009, becoming the most expensive footballer of all time with a transfer fee of £80 million(€93.9 million). According to the Sportsmail, United chief executive David Gill has been in Madrid to meet Jorge Mendes(Ronaldo’s agent) to sign the Portuguese. Ronaldo has always admired his former club and team-mates, and with the on-going uncertain situation at Real Madrid CF, a return to Manchester United could be a possibility.
