Argentina's Gonzalo Higuain shattered all records last year when he scored 36 goals in a single season for Napoli and became the highest goal scorer in a single season in Serie A. This amazing performances by the striker got him on the wishlist of many big European clubs. But it was Juventus who won the race for the talented Argentine for a whooping fee of €90million.
#5 Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum - Liverpool
Manager Jurgen Klopp wrapped up the signing of Sadio Mane for a whooping €41.2m. The midfielder could be an important player for the Reds as Klopp likes to press high in the field, Mane is strong and can cover a lot of ground which would help him adapt to Klopp's plans.
Liverpool also added to their squad Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle United. The €27.5m man scored 11 times for Newcastle last season and played all 38 games for them. Liverpool would benefit from these two signings as their manager’s high pressing football suits their game perfectly and makes them a threat.
#4 Michy Batshuayi and N'Golo Kante - Chelsea
Antonio Conte's first signing of the summer was Michy Batshuayi from Marseille for a fee of €39m. The striker was set to take Diego Costa's place, as Atletico wanted their man back at the Vicente Calderon. But now the Costa deal is unlikely to happen. Batshuayi could be an impressive player in Costa's absence as the striker is strong and can use both his feet.
Conte's second signing was highly rated midfielder from Leicester City who was crucial in their league triumph. Kante could emulate what Claude Makelele did at Chelsea. Chelsea bagged Kante for a fee of €35.80m from the Premier League champions.
#3 Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Manchester United
The former Chelsea boss likes to play defensive football and United needed someone to partner Chris Smalling at the back. Bailly is the right man as he had an exceptional last season for Villareal.
The icing on the cake is Mkhitaryan who could add some attacking flair to United's slow midfield. United has been criticized for playing 'boring' and monotonous football last season, which can change due to Mkhitaryan's inclusion. The biggest addition to United’s squad is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is said to have a very good relationship with the manager and arrived to United on a free transfer.
#2 Mats Hummels and Renato Sanches - Bayern Munich
The inclusion of Mats Hummels in the Bayern side would definitely end Bayern's defensive woes. Hummels cost Bayern Munich €38m and is perhaps bought to partner his fellow countrymen Jerome Boateng in the back line.
This could be a plus for Bayern as Hummels has an excellent relationship with Boateng when they play for Germany together. The Renato Sanchez transfer is also an impressive one for €35m, as the youngster has shown his capabilities in the Euro Cup 2016. Sanchez was one of the best players for Portugal in the campaign which secured them their first European championship.
#1 Mario Gotze, Ousmane Dembele and André Schürrle - Borrusia Dortmund
Mario Gotze completed a move back to his former club for €26m and is expected to partner Marco Reus in midfield. Gotze hardly got game time during his Bayern days and therefore opted to return to his former club Dortmund. He was an exceptional player in his first spell at Dortmund and will look to repeat the same performances in his second spell at the club.
Dortmund also roped in Ousmane Dembele from Rennes. The French star cost €15m and is a good prospect for the future. Another big transfer that Dortund completed was that of former Chelsea player André Schürrle for €30m. Schürrle is a goal-scoring winger who forms a deadly trio on paper with midfielders Reus and Gotze, and the excellent finishing qualities of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
