He began his journey having enrolled in the youth academy at his hometown club, New York City FC. Gio Reyna then moved to Germany to join arguably the best youth academy in Europe presently — Borussia Dortmund.

While making his debut in the black and yellow outfit, Reyna smashed compatriot Cristian Pulisic's record of being the youngest American to feature in a Bundesliga game.
