With the new season ready to commence and the transfer window in it’s closing half, Manchester United need to show some urgency in their transfers, especially when they could acquire only Kagawa and Powell so far, and have already received three vital blows in the form of Hazard, Modric and now Moura. Given that they went trophyless last season, they quickly need to modify their target-list and scan for transfer probables. Here are five youngsters which might just fit their bill.
Isco: Recently, the rumour-mill has been spilling over with this name and why shouldn’t it be, because the boy seems to have some talent. There are factions in the Spanish media which suggest that though Iker Muniain gets all the hype and attention, Isco isn’t far behind. There are chances that the 20 year-old Spanish midfielder who plays for Malaga could be taken to Old Trafford cheaply and easily, given Malaga’s current financial worries. And add to this fact that his buy-out clause is just £16 million, which is much lower than what United were willing to pay for Moura.
Victor Wanyama: The 21 year old Kenyan international plays for Celtic and if recent reports are to be believed, he was even scouted by United during Celtic’s Europa League qualifiers. What should get the Red Devils attentions is that the physically strong CDM, who seems to be very calm under pressure, is currently frustrated over being played as a CB and is interested in a Premier League switch. And the Glazers need not worry as well since his estimated worth is only around £7 milllon. And those of you who think that being less expensive doesn’t make him a good footballer, think again, because even Vidic was a £7million buy.
James Rodriguez: It was the month of June, when Nani’s contract talks at Old Trafford were stalled, that this name flashed in the rumour columns, only to disappear later. So what if the Nani situation has cooled, United still wanted a winger in Moura and this man might just be an ideal substitute. The Colombian ace has been one of the best weapons in Porto’s artillery over the past two seasons, netting 19 goals in 66 appearances. The winger is left footed which makes him different from the likes of Nani, Young and Valencia. Evaluated slightly above £20 million, the skillful dribbler and speedy customer might just fit Ferguson’s bill, since he is only 21 year old.
Kevin Strootman: United have been blessed to have Paul Scholes, with his soft touches, smart passing and vision, but something that they have missed in their midfield over the years is the presence of a dominant force like Roy Keane. And this lad might just turn out to be the next Roy Keane. The tall and well built defensive-minded midfielder has impressed one and all at PSV. But with the return of Mark Van Bommel to PSV, the 22 year-old Dutchman believes that his chances at PSV could dry up. With the Red Devils in a desperate need of a CDM, Strootman, with a price tag of around £15 million, might just be the guy.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa: The most impressive thing about the 23 year old is his versatility, as he can operate in all the four positions in the defense and occasionally even as a CDM. Not only can he cover the entire backline but his captaincy qualities are also admirable, given the fact that Montpellier were the surprise winners of the Ligue1 title last season. Though United have loads of young defenders, but with most of them injured almost always, and concerns over Patrice Evra , this is one buy that United can surely not miss.
All the five mentioned players are very young (just around 20) and moderately priced (except Rodriguez), which suits United’s transfer policy. So let us hope there is some good news around the corner for the estimated 659 million United followers.
