For now, let us take a look at the top ten contenders for the Premier League Golden Boot at the start of March 2019.
#10 Paul Pogba (France, Manchester United)
Goals Scored - 11
The Frenchman is enjoying a new lease of life under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United. Ever since the Norwegian has taken over the reigns at Old Trafford, Paul Pogba has found his form back. He has been fantastic for Manchester United in the past couple of months and it is only fitting that Pogba finds himself among the contenders for the Golden Boot right now.
Pogba started the month by assisting Marcus Rashford to score the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Leicester City. He followed that up with a fine brace in the game against Fulham, helping United win 3-0. After injuries forced United to stutter to a 0-0 draw against Liverpool, Pogba picked up another assist in the midweek game against Crystal Palace but failed to add to his tally.
At the start of March, the Frenchman has 11 goals and 9 assists from 25 games so far. He is the only central midfielder in this list and has registered 64 shots, 44 of which have been on target. He is currently 10th in the race to the Premier League Golden Boot and is 7 goals behind the man who leads this race.
#9 Son Heung-Min (South Korea, Tottenham Hotspur)
Goals Scored - 11
The South Korean has been prolific so far this season and is among the top contenders for the first time this season. Son took some time to get off the mark and scored his first goal at the end of November last year, against Chelsea. It kick-started a fantastic run where he scored 8 goals from 9 games.
Son started the month of February by scoring the only goal in the 1-0 win over Newcastle. He was among the goals once again in the following game, against Leicester, scoring one of Tottenham's three goals in a comfortable win. However, he failed to score in the next two games against Burnley and Chelsea, and Tottenham lost both games.
Son has now scored 11 goals from 22 games and has also registered 6 assists. He is averaging a goal every 138 minutes played so far and has recorded 38 shots on goal, 22 of which have been on target. At the start of March, the South Korean is 9th in the race to the Premier League Golden Boot.
#8 Alexandre Lacazette (France, Arsenal)
Goals Scored - 12
The Frenchman returns to the race after a fantastic month of February. He started the month on the losing side, as Arsenal were defeated away to Manchester City. Alexandre Lacazette started the game but failed to score. He made amends in the very next game though, scoring the winning goal against Huddersfield.
Lacazette was in the starting eleven once again last weekend, against Southampton and he scored once more. In the midweek game against Bournemouth, Emery opted to keep him on the bench, probably with fatigue in mind. He came on for the last 26 minutes and scored from a delicious free kick!
The Frenchman ended the month with 3 goals from 4 games, a form that earned him a place in this list. Lacazette now has 12 goals from 27 games and is 8th among the top contenders for the Premier League Golden Boot at the start of March. He has registered 47 shots so far, 25 of which have been on target and is averaging a goal every 153 minutes played.
#7 Eden Hazard (Belgium, Chelsea)
Goals Scored - 12
The Belgian had been going through a lean phase before the start of February, which meant that he had dropped down to 9th in our previous assessment. After a fantastic start to the season, Eden Hazard's form had hit rock bottom and he had scored just 3 goals in his last 15 games till the end of January. However, he redeemed himself in the month and ensured that he remained in the mix.
Hazard started the month on a high, scoring a brace in the 5-0 win over Huddersfield. However, his team were humiliated by Manchester City in the very next game and Hazard failed to get in the score sheet as Chelsea lost 6-0. In midweek, he failed to score once more as Chelsea secured a memorable 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at home.
With 12 goals from 26 games, Eden Hazard is currently 7th among the top contenders for the Premier League Golden Boot. He has registered 40 shots on goal, 30 of which have been on target and is averaging a goal every 173 minutes played.
#6 Raheem Sterling (England, Manchester City)
Goals Scored - 12
The Englishman continues at the 6th position after a decent month of February. Raheem Sterling started the month with the 3-1 win over Arsenal, where he picked up an assist but failed to score a goal. He started from the bench in the following game against Everton, came on for the last half an hour, but could not find the back of the net.
Against Chelsea in the following game, Sterling was instrumental as City routed the London side 6-0. The Englishman scored 2 goals and also set up another. In this midweek, he was on the bench again, against West Ham. He came on for the last 35 minutes but could not score as City struggled to a 1-0 win.
Sterling currently has 12 goals from 25 games and has registered 35 shots on target, 27 of which have been on target. He is averaging a goal every 166 minutes played and at the start of March is 6th among the top contenders for the Premier League Golden Boot.
#5 Sadio Mane (Senegal, Liverpool)
Goals Scored - 14
The Senegalese's rise this month has been sensational, as he went from being 8th at the start of February to 5th at the start of March. After a stellar end to the month of January, Sadio Mane continued his good form into February, scoring in the 1-1 draw against West Ham. He was on the scoresheet again in the following game, scoring another goal as Liverpool won 3-0 against Bournemouth.
After failing to continue his goalscoring run against Manchester United last weekend, Mane scored a brace this midweek against Watford, inspiring Liverpool to a thumping 5-0 win. He now has recorded 52 shots on goal, 31 of which have been on target. He is currently averaging a goal every 157 minutes played in the Premier League.
With 14 goals from 26 games, the Senegalese is 5th among the top contenders for the Premier League Golden Boot at the start of March.
#4 Harry Kane (England, Tottenham Hotspur)
Goals Scored - 15
The English forward had picked up an injury at the end of the home loss to Manchester United and had subsequently missed 4 games in the Premier League. His torn Ankle Ligament cost him his place among the contenders, as he dropped from 3rd at the start of February to 4th at the start of March.
Harry Kane missed the first two games of the month, the win against Newcastle and Leicester City. However, his return from injury was not auspicious for his club. He scored his team's only goal in a 2-1 loss away to Burnley and then failed to find the back of the net in the game against Chelsea this midweek.
Despite his injury, Kane still has 15 goals from 24 games and has registered 64 shots, 40 of which have been on target. He is averaging a goal every 138 minutes played and is currently lagging behind at 4th in the race to the Premier League Golden Boot.
#3 Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon, Arsenal)
Goals Scored - 16
The Gabon international dropped one place to 3rd at the start of March. Aubameyang started the month with a disappointing 3-1 loss at the hands of Manchester City, where he played the full 90 minutes but failed to score.
He was not in the squad for the next game against Huddersfield and could only make the bench in the following game against Southampton. He came off for the last 15 minutes, but once again, it was not a fruitful outing, even though Arsenal won the game.
This midweek, he was in the starting eleven against Bournemouth and score a fantastic goal as the Gunners won 5-1 at home. Aubameyang now has 16 goals from 27 games in the Premier League and is averaging a goal every 131 minutes played. He has registered 51 shots, 28 of which have been on target.
At the start of March, the Gabon International is 3rd among the top contenders for the Premier League Golden Boot.
#2 Mohamed Salah (Egypt, Liverpool)
Goals Scored - 17
The Egyptian is going through a mini goal drought of sorts right now - he has scored just 1 goal in his last 5 games in the Premier League and as such, Mohamed Salah has to give up his pole position and drop down to second.
He started the month with the 1-1 draw away to West Ham but failed to score. He found the back of the net in the following game, against Bournemouth, as Liverpool won the game 3-1. Salah was uncharacteristically quiet in the crunch 0-0 draw against Manchester United next and failed to inspire his team to a win.
In the game against Watford in the middle of this week, Salah was lively but failed to score again even though Liverpool won 5-0.
With 17 goals from 28 games so far, Salah is second in the race to the Premier League Golden Boot at the start of March. He has registered 70 shots on goal - the highest in the league - and 45 of those have been on target. He is currently averaging a goal every 140 minutes played and must regain his goalscoring form soon if he desires to catch the man leading this list right now.
#1 Sergio Aguero (Argentina, Manchester City)
Goals Scored - 18
The Argentinean has been the standout performer in the month, and his goalscoring form has lit up the league of late. It has also helped his move from 4th at the start of February to the top of the race now.
Sergio Aguero started the month with a fantastic hattrick against Arsenal that blew the Gunners away as City won 3-1 at home. He could not find the back of the net in the following game against Everton, but City won the game 2-0. However, the Argentinean made up for it in the following game, scoring another hattrick, this time against Chelsea, as he inspired his team to a brilliant 6-0 win.
The Argentinean scored the only goal of the game from the spot against West Ham in the middle of this week, secure a vital 1-0 win for his team as City continue to chase the title. He ended the month with 7 goals from 4 games!
Aguero now has 18 goals from 24 games and is averaging a goal every 98 minutes played. He has registered 66 shots on goal, 33 of which have been on target. At the start of March, Sergio Aguero is the No. 1 contender for the Premier League Golden Boot.
