At a time when most players come at a premium, there were some shrewder purchases in the Premier League, which already seem to be paying off.
Below is a list of five loan deals that could prove to be as important as a permanent deal:
Victor Moses (Chelsea to Liverpool)
Pushed down the pecking order after the arrivals of Andre Schurrle and Willian at Chelsea, the Nigeria international jumped ship to Merseyside, and will offer a different dimension to the new and improved Liverpool attack, with his direct running and crossing ability.
Having managed 10 goals in sporadic European appearances last season, the 22-year-old opened his account for the season in the 2-2 draw at Swansea.
Loic Remy (Queens Park Rangers to Newcastle United)
The Frenchman, who was linked to the Magpies a year earlier before moving to QPR instead, has hit the floor running with three goals in four games already.
The 26-year-old has already sharpened a blunted Newcastle attack, and along with countryman Hatem Ben Arfa, could prove to be the difference between a mid-table finish or another relegation battle.
Morgan Amalfitano (Marseille to West Bromwich Albion)
The 28-year-old midfielder, who joined West Brom from Ligue 1 side Marseille on deadline day, scored an amazing solo goal and set up the winner as West Midlands side stunned champions Manchester United at home.
It would come as no surprise if the Baggies active the clause to make the Frenchman’s loan deal permanent after his stunning start to the 2013/14 season.
Gareth Barry (Manchester City to Everton)
One of two deadline day signings by Roberto Martinez, the defensive midfielder has helped filled the last-minute void left by Marouane Fellaini’s departure to Manchester United.
And the overlooked England international hasn’t disappointed with his assured displays in the middle of the park. The 32-year-old has also ensured that the Toffees haven’t missed retired skipper Phil Neville’s experience.
Romelu Lukaku (Chelsea to Everton)
This eleventh-hour loan deal came as a shock as not many had expected Jose Mourinho to let go of the Belgian youngster. But Chelsea’s loss is Everton’s gain at the end of the day.
Having scored 17 times while on loan at WBA, the 20-year-old striker has already notched up three goals in three appearances this season, including a brace against Newcastle United.
