Barcelona apparently have €100m to spend on transfers this transfer window and will be offloading some of the players currently on their wage bill including Keita, possibly with Dani Alves and Ibrahim Afellay, who all could be on their way out if the money is right.
With a team like Barcelona, there is always news of possible transfers for Barcelona, I will look at the news doing the rounds and which transfers are more likely in this transfer window.
Adil Rami (CB)
The 26 year old French centre back plays for Valencia and has been a consistent and solid performer for the club, which finished 3rd in La Liga this past season. He would be a good addition to help with Barcelona’s lack of depth in centre-backs.
He is tall, strong, reliable and has also made appearances for the France national team and considering how expensive quality centre-backs are in the transfer market, he would be a cheaper option for the team.
Rami has made 33 appearances in the La Liga this season, 0 substitute appearances.
Probability of transfer- 5/10
Jordi Alba (LB, LW)
The 23 year old full back, and former La-Masia product has made it clear he would like to return to Barcelona and there has been contact between Barcelona and Valencia over the move, which is rumored to cost between €13-18m.
And with Eric Abidal probably not returning from his liver transparent he would be a good acquisition for the team. He’s young, speedy and has already cemented his place in the starting line-up of the Spanish team.
Mata has made 27 appearances in La Liga and five substitute appearances.
Probability of transfer- 8/10
Pablo Zabaleta (RB, CB, LB, CM)
The 27 year old Argentinian is rumored to be a target for Barcelona if they do in fact sell Dani Alves which is highly unlikely though and he has also said he is happy at Manchester City.
He is a reliable defender, a very versatile player who can play all positions in defense, even Roberto Mancini preferred him over Micah Richards in the title run and also scored in that final game against QPR.
Zabaleta is also a regular for the Argentina national club at right back and is very close with Lionel Messi.
Zabaleta has made 18 appearances in the Premier League and 3 substitute appearances.
Probability of transfer- 3/10
Thiago Silva (CB)
The 27 year old Brazilian has been rumored to be a transfer target for the last couple of seasons and you can see why when you see his performances for AC Milan.
He is regarded as the best central defender in the world, mobile, fast, strong, good positional sense, strong in the air as well and is comfortable on the ball and can also play in midfield.
But his transfer would be difficult as he has signed a contract with Milan that runs until 2016, and the money Milan would want for him is rumored to be €35-40m.
Also, considering that Milan have just lost the services of Nesta, it is highly unlikely that this transfer would happen.
Silva has made 27 appearances in the Serie A this season, 0 substitute appearances.
Probability of transfer- 2/10
Javi Martinez (DM,CB)
The 23 year old Spanish international and World Cup winner has had a great season for Athletic Bilbao being deployed in central defense and in a defensive midfield position by Bielsa, and has performed admirably.
Barcelona have shown interest in the player, but face stiff competition for his signature with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool also interested in his signature.
Another stumbling block with the attempt to sign Martinez is the €40m that has been placed on his head. He would be a good addition to the squad if the transfer was possible.
Martinez has made 30 appearances in the La-Liga this season, 0 substitute appearances
Probability of transfer- 5/10
Edinson Cavani (ST)
The 25 year old Uruguay international is a very good finisher and has been exceptional for Napoli since he joined the club, helping them qualify for the Champions League last season.
Cavani is a very powerful and strong player, he has a commanding presence up front as well and can also can hold onto the ball and is not afraid to get fight for the ball in the air.
But, most importantly, he is a natural finisher when in front of goal, and he is also mobile and can play across any position in the front-line.
His transfer is not easy, though, as he has a huge price tag on his head in the region of €40m, but with the transfer kitty available and possible transfers out of the team, he can be acquired.
Cavani has made 32 appearances in the Serie A this season, 3 substitute appearances
Probability of transfer- 3/10
